Welcome to India and to the bustling metropolis of Bangalore city. Famous for being the cosmopolitan hub of the information Technology Industry, the city has seen exponential growth in the past two decades. Well known for its pleasant temperature, great food and amazing social life, this city is among one of the most vibrant in India. We will receive you at the airport and arrange transport to move you to the farmhouse.We will begin with an introduction to the tour and spend the evening getting to know each other a little better. A simple health check-up will be conducted and we will enjoy our first meal of the BeAnimal Journey. We will spend the night in a beautiful farmhouse in the suburbs.

Our day starts with yoga and meditation practice. This is an essential part of each day as it helps us develop more empathy and understanding of our bodies.

Our task for today is to begin our drive to Hampi, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. After having juice and a refreshing South Indian breakfast in Bangalore city we will board the bus and set off on our roadtrip. The drive is about 7 hours and we will be will be stopping at Chitradurga for lunch and to visit the magnificent fort. We will arrive in Hampi at dusk and settle in at our comfortable guest house.

Wake up in the historical kingdom of the Vijayanagara dynasty and prepare to be transported back in time. Today, we will visit our farmer friends for the first time and begin to learn a little bit about permaculture. It is fantastic opportunity to observe the land and learn more about culture and agrarian traditions in India. We will practice some simple farming techniques and eat fresh produce straight from the fields. You will have time to explore the magical landscape and visit the bazaar and Virupaksha temple.

After yoga, we will go on a tour of all the ruins. There are a ton of amazing sights to see in Hampi so be prepared to have your mind blown. We will visit the Vijaya Vittala temple with its famous musical pillars, Achyutaraya temple, Purandara mantapa and the ruined bridge by the banks of the Tungabhadra river. Once we return, we will have a short presentation about pollution and climate change followed by a documentary and discussion. We will look at changing ecosystems all over the world and how this affects the balance of nature.

Today, we will have our first cooking class and kick-start our mini series on plant-based nutrition. We will look at ancient thoughts on the subject of health and nutrition and learn what the vedas have to offer us. We will mainly be basing our course on the science of nutrition and how the food we consume effects both our personal well-being as well as the health of the planet. We will also be heading out on a beautiful 14 km long hike around Hampi.

After completing our morning rituals, our topic of discussion today will be ‘Diseases and what causes them’. We will be learning about the foods that keep us healthy and natural remedies for common ailments. We will be practicing our cooking skills and we will dive even deeper into the essence of a vegan lifestyle. We will visit our farmer friends on the field today to learn more about concepts and themes in permaculture design. We will learn how to work with nature rather than against it to create farms that are truly resilient. We will learn more about crop pairing and water management techniques. In the evening, we will set out to explore Hampi one last time and we will plant a small permaculture garden in a barren patch of land as a token of respect to this great civilization.

Our mission for today is to drive from Hampi to Agonda Beach in South Goa. It is an 8 hour drive in which we will be passing through several wildlife sanctuaries before arriving in Goa. We will pause for lunch at the unique Syntheri rock formation in the Dandeli national park. Our topic of discussion today is ‘Urbanization and Human Activity’. We will be passing through, cities, fields and forest while we drive and we will have plenty of real life examples to use in our conversation. We will arrive in Agonda by nightfall at retire in our beach huts.

Agonda beach in South Goa is literally paradise on earth. Much less commercialized than its sisters in North Goa, Agonda is a place where you can truly relax your mind, body and soul. Now, that we’ve settled in to our routine, we can spend more time doing yoga and learning about Indian philosophy. We will have our cooking classes at one of the best Vegan restaurants in India and dive deeper into the topic of how to stay health and even bodybuild on a vegan diet! We will also be visiting ‘The Tribe’ which is a fully off-grid community in the forest of Goa dedicated to restoring the balance of nature.

After yoga and meditation, we will continue our permaculture education where we left off with the topic ‘Methods of design’, in which we will learn how to structure an intervention of a parcel of land. We will plant more seeds and learn about the local wildlife. Today, we will head out in our tour bus to see what a day in the life of the average Goan looks like.

We kick off the day with a discussion about sustainable construction practices in India. We will also look at the latest in sustainable building technology from all over the world and watch a short documentary on the same. We will have a workshop on the building of bamboo furniture and we will construct a few beds out of nothing but natural materials. Minerals. What do you know about them? We will be learning about minerals both inside our body and out. Ensuring a balanced diet while eating vegan is key to staying healthy. We will be looking at some methods of measuring how much nutrition we need and checking if we are eating adequately. There’s nothing better than an early morning walk through the forests of Goa to energize the mind. On this day, we are marching to Butterfly beach early in the morning. We will have a workshop on natural cosmetics where we will learn how to make cosmetics that are both good for your skin and the planet! In our nutrition class, we will learn about lipids and how we can incorporate good fats into our whole food vegan diet.

This will be our last day in Goa to savour your time by the sea before we head inland again. We have a super fun workshop planned out for today in our permaculture course called ‘Understanding patterns’. We will head out into the forest and learn about how natural systems self-organize themselves in predictable ways. We will also be learning how to identify a few different plant species. In the evening we will continue our natural cosmetics workshop from the previous day. Chill out by the beach and prepare for the bus ride to Mysore.

We will say our goodbyes to Goa shortly after yoga and our morning coconut water and juice. We will drive 104 km to Gokarna which is another coastal paradise in the state of Karnataka. We have lunch in town and visit Om beach to swim in the Arabian sea one last time. After this, we will hop in the bus for a 10 hour drive to Mysore which is famous for its glittering royal heritage and magnificent monuments. It is also the home of Ashtanga yoga. We will also be crossing the costal town of Udupi which is famous for its delicious vegetarian cuisine.

Welcome to Mysore - land of the maharajas! Our plan for the day is to go around this royal city and eat some epic street food! We will also visit the famous Mysore palace that is world renowned for its lavish stained glass interiors. In our cooking class we will learn how to prepare a traditional south indian breakfast and we will go over all that we have learnt in our nutrition course. Our aim for this day is to prepare presentations on food and nutrition for students at the orphanage we are visiting.

We will be visiting a local animal sanctuary and hearing from experts on the subjects of habitat loss and species extinction. Today we will visit a very special type of orphanage on the outskirts of Mysore city. You will have time to interact with the students and we will teach them everything we have learnt over the course of the tour. After our presentations are done, we will pack up and head over to Chamundi hill. There are 1000 steps that lead up to the temple on top where you will find a monolithic statue of Nandi (Shiva’s bull).

It is the final day of the BeAnimal tour. Smiles, tears, hugs and goodbyes are in order. It’s the beginning of a new journey with so many exciting possibilities. In some way each one of us had made an impression on each other and India has made an even bigger impact on all of us. We will present our mindmaps to the team and we will discuss how each one of us can help take the collective vision forward. We will make the short 3 hour drive back to Bangalore city, reaching in the evening after which you can stay the night with us or depart at your convenience.
